Dev Chat – Short Answers to Big Questions, is a series of short videos created by Amazon Appstore in which developers of successful apps and games answer your questions in no more than 90 seconds.
In this edition, the creators of the Digital Concert Hall share their challenges and experiences in transferring the live experience of a classical concert to viewers based in New York, Berlin or Tokyo by using AWS and Fire TV.
The Digital Concert Hall was the first virtual concert hall worldwide and gold winner of the German LeadAward 2009 in the WebTV category. Subscribers of the Digital Concert Hall get instant access to all live concerts of the Berlin Philharmoniker – online, mobile and on Fire TV. All previous concerts are also accessible in an archive that is growing with every broadcast. As the concerts are rarely broadcast on TV or sold on DVD, the Digital Concert Hall offers a very rare chance to enjoy your favorite compositions, musicians and soloists in high-quality resolution and in a convenient way online.
The Berliner Philharmoniker decided to launch their virtual concert hall via an HTML5 web app. Jan Beardi, Product Manager Big Screen, points out that that has allowed them to “launch the app on Fire TV in a cost-efficient and timely manner.” With their app, Tobias Moeller, Head of Marketing and Communication, explains that Fire TV stick has contributed substantially to reach new customer globally: “Being on the Fire TV Stick is a huge help, as the device is popular with an incredible large number of people. Many people will discover us for the first time on this device.”
Make sure to tune in to the other Digital Concert Hall videos, in which the Berliner Philharmoniker explain the benefits of an HTML5 app for Fire TV, why Fire TV is particularly interesting for the Berlin Philharmoniker, and how AWS has contributed to the success of the Digital Concert Hall.
