Amazon GameOn is a flexible set of REST APIs that works across platforms, helping you create competitions that will engage your players on the devices, computers, and consoles they love.
We're excited to share that GameOn released another update last week. We've added additional reporting in the console so you can ultimately measure the popularity of your competitions and the level of player engagement.
If you have registered for an Amazon developer account and have requested a GameOn API key for your game, you can access all the reports we'll show you below. We'll also describe how can benefit from the insights they offer.
First, go to your GameOn management console.
Click on Your Competitions, and select the game for which you want the data. Find the specific competition you wish to view in the list that is returned for your selected game. Here you can see the number of players and the number of scores submitted.
Number of players who submitted a score
You can quickly calculate what percentage of your install base or DAU participated in an open tournament, or what percentage of an invited group started playing. The higher the participation rate, the more popular your competition was.
Don’t be afraid to do some testing here. See what conditions generate the highest engagement rates for your game. For example, in the API (AddRequirementListRequest), you can set entrance conditions such as geo-proximity, the level of the player, and even what gear the player has.
Scores submitted
The next data point shown is number of scores submitted. This is a good indicator of the number of games each player is playing. If you have no limit to the number of scores a player can submit, you can calculate an average attempts number so you can see how many times each player played the game.
Now, click on the Details link. Here you see the leaderboard details by player in the case of one large competition or, if you have multiple matches in your competition, you can see the summary for each match.
To increase the number of attempts per play, try reducing the number of attempts allowed. That’s right. Reduce it. If you currently have unlimited attempts, and the current average attempts are set at three, try setting the maximum to five. There is a good chance that those players who played three games will take advantage of the extra two attempts, hence maximizing their chance of winning.
And lastly, don’t forget that one of the benefits of GameOn is its ability to let your players create their own competitions! You can get detailed reporting information on player-created tournaments as well. Just click the User Generated Competitions link in the top navigation bar.
Are you new to GameOn? Get started today, it's easy! Some developers have even been able to set up competitions in their game with GameOn in as little as one day.
